With August coming to a close soon and taking Summer with it, for many, it’s difficult not to feel a bit disheartened and dread the colder months coming. With holidays ending and often people adopting a more frugal attitude to spending, autumn can feel bleak and lonely. But it doesn’t have to be! As an Autumn lover and someone greatly anticipating the colder season here are my top tips for beating holiday blues.
- Make your space a nice place to be.
This one is so important and can make your mood so much better. Surround yourself with things that make you happy and boost your mood and it can make being indoors more enjoyable. I personally love surrounding my space with blankets and books.
2. Do one nice thing every day for yourself.
I started making an effort to do this recently and it genuinely made a big difference. it is a cliche but making time for yourself can really help make you beat those holiday blues. Now, not everyone has time to have a pamper evening every day but carving out a small chunk of your day to do something that brings you joy is a great way to start. It could be something as small as going on a walk or making your favourite meal but doing things for YOU that YOU want to do can be such a mood booster.
3. Remind yourself of the reasons you like being at home.
This can definitely help chase away summer sadness. I love holidays and the sun and sea but there are creature comforts that I love about being at home. Who doesn’t love their own bed?
4. Adopt a holiday mindset.
So many people only treat themselves or do nice things on holiday. Why is that? There is nothing stopping you reading a book to start the day or dressing up for dinner more often or that salad you loved in Italy? Try and make it! Life is what you make of it and joy shouldn’t be allotted to one or two weeks of the year.
5. Make plans!
This is a big one that can make coming home so much easier. Arrange to see your friends or see that film that just came out, catch up with family and give yourself things to look forward to.
Overall, with summer slowing down and holidays coming to an end remember to enjoy what little of summer is left and make time for yourself. Most importantly, be kind to yourself 🙂
