Following on from my post on how to beat holiday blues (if you haven’t read yet it go check it out) here are some things I LOVE about Autumn and look forward to every year. With the nights getting shorter, the rain getting harder and the weather getting colder it’s important to romanticise the slower autumn and winter months so here are 10 things to look forward to about the coming months rather than dread them š
- Hot drinks
Enough said really- hot chocolate? Cream? Marshmallows? Absolutely yes.
- Scarves and jumpers
I love warm winter clothing and being able to wear layers and snuggle up in jumpers and hats and scarves is so cosy! I bought a pair of earmuffs last year and now I can’t wait to wear them again!
- Rainy days reading and watching
Let’s face it, it’s going to start getting pretty cold and rainy- but I just see that as an excuse to curl up with a book all comfy and cosy inside and let the world pass me by. My boyfriend and I love staying in and watching films and I can’t wait to do this in the rainy autumn.
- Roast dinners
Don’t get me wrong I love summer but I thoroughly love roast dinners on a cold autumn day with yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and lashings of gravy and it’s just not the same as a ”summer roast” with new potatoes instead!
- Halloween
Not to state the obvious but so many holidays happen in autumn and winter, halloween being one of them. Who doesn’t love dressing up and eating way too many sweets?
- Bonfire night
This is one of my favourite holidays of the year- fireworks are SO pretty and there are some great displays around the country to see them! My home town puts on a torchlit procession and carnival every year as well which I never miss- it’s very Gilmore Girls core!
- Christmas
It’s only the most wonderful time of the year! Or at least that’s what the song says so it must be true! It’s just a magical time of year and is one always filled with happiness that hopefully makes putting up with some wind and rain worth it!
- Baking
This certainly is a year round thing but I just seem to find myself baking more in winter- cinnamon buns, sticky toffee pudding, Christmas cake, yule log…
- Comfort food
It may rain bucket fulls in England, but that is always a good excuse for comfort food and arguably gravy is our biggest export. Stews, casseroles, mash potato- need I go on?
- Cosy nights in
To end this list, there’s always the feeling of slowness in autumn and with that comes cosy nights shut away- reading, watching films, hosting dinner parties or games nights! Take the time to relax and watch the world in these slower months š
Overall, try and remind yourself of the things you do enjoy about the colder months and find the little pockets of magic they have to offer.
Happy Autumn šš¦šāļø
Yours, justjaslettering xxx
