This is a big topic to tackle, but something I have been thinking about recently as I near the end of my uni years. Leaving formalised education is both exciting as I look ahead to the next chapter and pretty daunting. So, I thought I’d write some tips for dealing with change, even if you don’t necessarily want to, because change is a part of life and it’s important to live alongside it in relative comfort.
- Keep a hobby constant
This is something that I find really helpful to stay afloat amongst uncertainty and remind yourself that not everything has to change if you don’t want it to. Trying new hobbies is great, but sticking with something tried and tested can help ensure you retain a sense of self in times of upheaval. Personally, I love to read or embroider.
- Have a routine
Keeping some things constant amongst chaos or times of change can be really beneficial for regulating your mental health. Even if it’s as simple as making sure you eat three balanced meals and doing your skincare, keeping small things constant can help the big changes not feel as big and daunting.
- Have monthly goals
Lots of people take part in new years resolutions or yearly goals and that can be great and can work for some people, but for others they can be pretty unachievable. Setting smaller, more manageable goals each month can mean you actually achieve them and have a sense of accomplishment each month, which can be so helpful if you are experiencing lots of change.
- SELF CARE
I talk about this on my blog ALL THE TIME but it really is true- you will never be productive if you’re not looking after you mind and body. Taking time for yourself amongst moments of uncertainty or change can calm your mind and relax your body and is really important in managing times of change.
- Practicing calm
This is definitely easier said than done, and goes hand in hand with the above point but being deliberate in mindset and actions can go a long way. Reciting affirmations or mantras, switching your phone off for an hour before bed or getting outside first thing are all instances of practicing calm.
