I have just returned from inter-railing round Europe. I went to eight countries, eleven destinations and took many, many trains.
After completing my degree I wanted to take some time to travel and experience new places, places I otherwise wouldn’t have gone to. Getting to watch the world go by from the window of a train was particularly special. I tried to pack as much as I could into my trip and I was fortunate enough to not only see some amazing places but do some amazing things. Here are my top five:
- Zip lining over the Sava Dolinka river, Lake Bled

This truly was a once in a lifetime experience. I had been wanting to go to Lake Bled for over a year and when I finally got there it did not disappoint. The scenery was absolutely stunning and getting to sail over it all on 4km of zipline was magical. I also swam in the lake and went on the alpine coaster. If you’re staying in Slovenia for a little extra time definitely visit Ljubljana close by for some great history and restaurants.
2. Van Goph Museum, Amsterdam

First of all, the gift shop here was immense, so definitely stop by that. Not only could you look at some of his best work, you can also take an audio tour, draw some artwork of your own and visit the special exhibits. I really recommend the audio tour, you can pick three levels of detail and decide which extra bits of information you listen to. It was super informative.
3. Therme Spa, Bucharest

I had seen a lot about the spa online and it was one of the most anticipated places to visit on my trip. I went in the main pool, the outside pool, the waterslides, therapy pools and ate at the restaurant. Not only was it 30 degrees the day I went, the foliage inside the spa was beautiful, the food was great and all of the facilities are phenomenal. It is a must visit place, as is Bucharest, especially the Sky Bar, a rooftop bar looking out over Bucharest.
4. Swimming in Kravica Waterfall, Bosnia

The water here was so clear, you can swim in the water, go on boats, eat at the restaurant and hike. It was an immense feeling, being engulfed by such stunning scenery and it is definitely somewhere to add to the bucket list.
5. Museum of broken relationships, Zagreb

This was a tiny museum in Zagreb, displaying artefacts of peoples lost loves and relationships. The museum acts as a place to send the objects, for a sense of closure. The objects were from all around the world and vary from being funny to sad to heartfelt. It was a really interesting and funny nook of intrigue in the middle of Zagreb. It’s a small place and if you didn’t know it was there you might not notice it, but it was such an unusual place to go and I really recommend it.
Let me know what cool activities or destinations you’ve been to this summer, yours justjaslettering xxx
